Descriptions

The following are descriptions of Musink Lite. They are free of copyright; you may use, modify, and redistribute them as you see fit.

Long Description

Musink is a free notation editor which lets you compose music at unprecedented speeds. With Musink you can create MIDI-loops, orchestral scores, exercise books, short-musical snippets, and posters.

The problem with most composition software is that it is incredibly clunky, slow, and extortionately expensive. Most software of this type is also only set up for full-page scores, and makes it your responsibility to make it look good. Too often, the result is illegible music and a lot of wasted time.

Musink is not just another clumsy notation editor; is a unique lightening-fast publishing tool that anyone can use. It lets you create MIDI files, PDFs, and images which you can put into word documents or post on the web.

Everything possible in Musink is automated: from note durations to arranging marks, from setting fonts to overall page layout.

Writing notes in Musink is as easy as clicking where you would like a note to appear. Note and rest durations are set and adjusted automatically for you. It really is that simple. As you add or delete notes in Musink, notes around automatically adjust their duration - no more rewriting half a bar simply because you changed your mind on a couple of beats. This unique method of notation means that Musink users can expect to write complex rhythms in Musink 4-to-10 times faster than the current market leader.

Musink takes care of the hard work for you, and lets you do what you came to do: write music.

Playback Enabled

Musink, will play your music back to you through any connected MIDI device, including keyboards, drum machines, VST instruments or Windows' native GM set.

This free composition software also exports projects as MIDI files, and comes with a handy 'MIDI Loop' exporting tool, to let users create loops to practice along with.

Publishing Made Easy

Musink is not just a traditional scorewriter that limits you to creating orchestral scores. Creating exercise books, simple posters, drum loops, or just jotting down an idea are tasks Musink makes simple.

Two mouse clicks is all it takes to publish a Musink score to a PDF document, XPS document, or series of PNG (image) files. Scores published to images can be dropped into any MS Word document, emailed, or put on the web, without the need for browser plug-ins. PDFs and XPS documents created by Musink are vectorised (have an infinite resolution), and can be edited in any compatible vector-editing software, such as Adobe Illustrator or Corel Draw.

As everything is fully automated, music can be published to two completely-different page layouts in a matter of seconds. One version for an e-book reader or iPad, and one version for printing, for example.

A Drummer's Dream

The needs of percussionists are seldom understood, let alone met, by most composition software. In contrast, Musink contains features which make composing for percussion a breeze:

  • Write voices across several staves, and have them merge during publishing
  • Create flams, sticking, and ghost notes in a single-click
  • Special layout rules specifically for drums
  • Drum keys, buzz rolls, and more

Musink is a next generation tool to help you realise your musical ideas, compose, share your work, teach your students, and have fun doing so.

This free notation editor comes with step-by-step help documentation and tutorials that help you get get writing quickly.
